Apple Turkeys

For Family Home Evening last Monday we made apple turkeys and played ABC thanks (basically go in a round saying something you are thankful for for each letter in the alphabet).
I had the idea of using Caramel Apples so that they would be brown instead of red, plus they are yummier to eat. Adam had the idea of making them sliced carmel apples so that they would be easier and less messy to eat. It actually worked pretty well except with Maggies, so she used just a plain old apple instead.

Maggie had so much fun. I think one of the biggest reasons is that we let her eat marshmellows, gumdrops and candy corn and she doesn't usually get much candy. But she also liked making the turkey.

She really liked eating everything when she was done though. Why she is eating the caramel apple like this instead of picking up the pieces I don't know.

Here is me and my turkey. I have to give Adam credit for the head. I spent a few minutes looking online to find a good way to do the turkey's head and didn't really find anything. I forgot I was married to Mr. Creativity, of course he had a good idea.

Here is Adam's turkey. If we would have been giving out prizes he definately would have won.
Can you see how excited he is to eat it all up? He did eat almost all of it except on apple slice and the feet and he felt sick for about an hour or two. Talk about sugar overload.

I was not about to let Isaac have gumdrops and marshmellows so he got to make a cheerio turkey. (Don't worry we watched him really closely with the toothpicks). He did try to put a few cheerios on his turkey but mostly he just took them off and ate them.

He lasted maybe three of four minutes before the whole turkey went in his mouth. I haven't given him an apple before because he still only has four teeth but he did pretty well with it and had a great time eating apple and cheerios while the rest of us made our turkeys. And don't worry, he didn't get totally neglected, I did give him a half of a mini-marshmellow and he seemed pretty happy with that.

Christmas in November

Last Saturday when Adam was still gone on his campout we decided to go and get some Christmas shopping done for him. I decided to stop at Bass Pro Shop to look for some things and guess who is there just inside the door. That's right, Santa Clause, on the 15th of November. He sure is getting out early this year.
After shopping around for a few minutes we went downstairs to their winter wonderland. Maggie was thrilled to sit on Santa's lap and kept wanting to go back and see him again.

Isaac on the other hand didn't want to go anywhere near him, although he was more than happy to eat the candy cane Santa gave him.

There were also lots of fun activities the kids could do. Maggie made a pinecone ornament and drove remote control truck. They both colored Christmas pictures. They also had some lasor guns and targets to play with. I tried to show Maggie what to do but she was way to scared of them and wouldn't go anywhere near there. It was a fun little shopping trip though.

Girls Night In!

Adam went off to a scout campout on Friday so Maggie and I put Isaac to bed early and had a girls night.
We also let Maggie set up her sleeping bag in her room so she could go camping in her "tent room". Before we put Isaac to bed we let him hang out with Maggie in her sleeping bag. He thought it was great for about ten seconds and then he wanted out.

After Isaac went to bed Maggie and I painted our finger nails and toe nails. I let Maggie do my toe nails and she did a pretty good job.

Then we did each other's hair. Maggie took all the pictures of me.
Here is the view from the front.

And her is the view from the back.

Then we took lots of funny pictures. If you notice Maggies eyes straying it is because she kept looking at the princess movie we were watching.

This was my favorite picture. Certainly not because of me but because of my sweet little Maggie girl. I love her so much. We had a great time being girly!

Random

I desperately need to be working on my research but I'm not feeling very good and my brain just won't work so I decided to blog instead. These are just some random pictures from the last week or two.

My two very cool kids sporting some olds sunglasses that were left in a car we got about three years ago. They have just been sitting around the house here and there and finally made it to Maggie's dress up drawer.

The weather finally cooled off enough to turn on our electric fireplace, although the heat wasn't actually on. Too bad it warmed up again today.

It was a sporty week. The kids had a blast wrestling each other and mom and dad.

Isaac is learning to play his own form of baseball.
And Maggie and Isaac playing catch with Daddy. As you can see Maggie is all about fashion and not function when it comes to her sports apparel.

Maggie was learning to take pictures this week. This is one of her better shots.

Isaac's all time favorite toy: the turtle ball pit. As you can see nothing makes him happier than being surrounded by "baas" as he says. I bet you can imagine how much fun I have cleaning those up over and over and over again. But how could I possibly deprive him of such joy.

And finally, one Sunday we decided to try a new recipe we found: Caramel Rice Krispy Treats. The kids were loving licking the spoon. In case you're wondering how the dessert turned out, we decided to put some fudge frosing on top of the treats but it ended up being way too much. It takes like crunchy fudge and is very sweet!

Maggie Maggie

Our silly little girl often times falls asleep in funny positions and places but I think this is the best one yet. She was so tired today and fell asleep halfway on her chair and halfway on her table. She was out cold too, she didn't even flinch at the flash.

Halloween

I know it has been a couple of days but I am finally posting some Halloween pictures.

Here is my little frog prince.

He had a hard time walking in his costume without shoes on because it was just a tad too long but he was also having a hard time crawling in it, so, the result: one mad little froggy.

Maggie wanted to get all prettied up so I let her put some curlers in her hair. I thought it might tame her wild curls but it didn't, she looked kinda cute in the curlers though.

Here is our fairy princess. One the left is her smile but on the right is her "fairy smile".

So, I am not one to brag but I am also not one to be crafty, so, since a friend from church taught me how to make a tutu and I decided to try to be crafty I am going to brag. I made Maggies costume, well not the leotard but the rest of it. It isn't perfect but I thought I did a pretty good job. It helps that Maggie is so cute and looks adorable in anything.

This was the only picture I got from behind of her wings. They were a pain to make since I insisted upon making them from the same green tulle that was in her tutu. But they worked out in the end.

I was too busy to think of and make costumes for Adam and I so we were losers this Halloween. Oh well. The kids had lots of fun trick-or-treating. Now we just have to decide what to do with all their candy cause that is way too much sugar for them. At the end of the night our little princess turned our little frog back into a prince so we could all go to bed.

Isaac's Birthday and other stuff....

So, if I was a really good mommy and totally on top of things I would have posted this last Wednesday, on his birthday, but as you can tell by all my recent blogging activity, I am so not on top of things! But I figured better late than never. I can't believe my little boy is already one! This past year has gone by much too fast. Happy Birthday my Son!

Here is Isaac on the day he was born.

And here he is one year later. He is growing up too fast!

Since Wednesday's are $1 day at the fair if you bring cans of food we decided that would be a great activity for his birthday. First we went to see all the animals. They actually have some pretty cool animals at the petting zoo, although I didn't post pictures of them. They have a baby giraffe, a baby zebra, ostriches, kangaroos, wallabees, some cool four horned sheep, and a lot of other animals as well.

Maggie was petting almost everything, which is good for her because sometimes she is scared of animals, but Isaac wasn't too sure about them at first. He warmed up a little but still didn't do too much petting. I think in the end he was more excited about us letting him stand instead of being held and the fence that he was trying to climb up than he was about the animals but he had fun.

After the animals we went to the car show. It isn't anything spectacular, no fancy cars but they have just about every car on the market on display there, so of course we had to check it out. The kids liked driving the Saturn Sky convertable or at least they liked pushing all the buttons.

When we got home Isaac opened presents. Actually Maggie opened most of them, but Isaac didn't really seem to care. Thank you to Grandma and Grandpa, Great Grandma and Grandpa and Nana and Papa. He loved his presents, even before they were open!

Since I haven't posted anything for a while here is an update on Miss Maggie. She has lots of fun playing dress ups with anything she can find. Here are some of her latest.

Maggie was putting on some clothes from her too big/winter box and she found a shirt that had spaghetti straps and was too big so I told her that it was immodest and she needed to wear a shirt underneath it if she was going to wear it so she came out like this. (I think the long sleeve shirt is also on backwards). Later she added the accessories, like her red sparkaly shoes, her black purse and a shash. It was pretty awsome but when I tried to get a picture she decided she didn't want anymore pictures and the best one I got was of her running away throwing the purse and sash in the air.

This is her cool cowgirl outfit apparently. I loved the three different shades of pink she has going on and the flannel pajama shirt complements it so well.

This one happened while I was sorting through Isaac's clothes. These particular pieces are currently too big for Isaac but she does fit into a lot of his clothes. Earlier this summer she was wearing his swimming suit.

At least her skirt and shirt match each other in this one.

Finally, this is from a birthday party that Maggie went to on the day we were supposed to have a tropical storm hit Dallas. It was a princess party and they all put on make-up and wore their pretty princess dresses. She loved it. Thanks Rachel!
